Introduction
To start with, Post -Graduate Diploma (PGD) Leading to Master's Degree in
Population, Gender and Development was initiated within Pokhara University
Campus premises in 2003. The duration of the PGD program was of one year. This
program was launched under tripartite agreement between UNFPA, Government of Nepal and Pokhara
University to strengthen the university's capacities in teaching, training and
research in the field of population, gender and development.
The objective of the Population, Gender and Development program is to produce
development professionals for poverty alleviation programs of Nepal including
governmental as well as international non-governmental sectors. However,
specific objectives of the program was to produce middle level professionals and
social researchers with multidisciplinary concepts, having understanding of
contemporary theories and issues, specialized or focused on particular area and
equipped with operational social research skills.
After completion of one year's pilot Phase, the university has decided to
continue for Master's Degree in Population, Gender and Development along with
Post graduate Diploma Program. In addition to this, the university has a plan to
incorporate other bachelor as well as master level's programs of humanities and
applied social sciences in the school.
